What we do

Eagle Flight Training Ltd (“EFT”) is the only one stop shop of its type for student pilots and qualified pilots of both aeroplanes and helicopters in need of flight and groundschool training and for mentored post-PPL advanced skills training.

About our Chief Instructor

Captain Dave Lewins FRAes

Aeroplanes: ATPL(A), FI(A), CRI, GR(A)

Helicopters: CPL(H), FI(H), GR(H)

Specialist Subjects: All subjects for both Aeroplanes and Helicopters.

Prior to his current roles as a commercial helicopter pilot and instructor and fixed wing aerial photography pilot and instructor, Dave flew the Boeing 757/767 and Airbus 320/321 on short, medium and long haul routes for 15 years around Europe, Asia, Africa and the eastern USA, achieving his command in 2005.

His informative years in the Royal Air Force were on the F4 Phantom as an operational pilot, and this was followed by a tour as an instructor on the Phantom Operational Conversion Unit teaching pilots and navigators the skills of Radar Interceptions, Air Combat Manoeuvring and employment of tactical air to air weapons. For the next 3 years, he went on an exchange tour with the USAF in Arizona instructing their pilots similar skills on the mighty F15 Eagle. On his return to the UK, and after 2 years as the air-to-air weapons specialist at the MoD Main Building in London, his last four years of RAF service were spent instructing student pilots on the Hawk on the Tactical Weapons squadrons in Devon and Anglesey.

Since he left the airlines, Dave retrained on helicopters and very much enjoys teaching its intricacies and challenges of both rotary and fixed wing flying in the air and on the ground.

Dave is now dedicated to sharing his 40+ years as a professional fixed-wing and helicopter aviator with his students in a most innovative and unique ground and flying training school that will inspire and enthuse new pilots aspiring to fly either aeroplanes or helicopters.

“Learning is tough at the best of times but Dave just has a knack of making you understand all the information”
Earl Carpenter, PPL (H) Student
“Dave was my instructor, helping me achieve my PPL(H) and become the youngest helicopter pilot in Europe, passing just 2 weeks after my 17th birthday.”
James Wadsworth, Helicopter Pilot
“I'm time poor and find numbers and science tricky. Dave was super flexible to help me fit in the study - and took the time and trouble to break trickier areas into understandable chunks which made sense."
Jim Lawless,  PPL(H) Student
